QuoteA KLM Boeing 747-400, registration PH-BFR performing her last ever flight KL-747 from Amsterdam to Enschede (Netherlands), had landed on Enschede's runway 23, slowed safely and stopped at the end of the runway, when three roe deer walked across the runway eyeing the aircraft. The crew spotted the animals and greeted them warmly, too.

PH-BFR is the first of KLM's Boeing 747-400s going to be scrapped in Enschede.

Fond memories of seeing it passing over my house when I lived close to 21R in Jo'burg.

The first 747-400 I ever flew on was a KLM airliner. I have fond memories, especially since I got bumped up to business class for some reason. It was back in the days before I paid any attention to reward programs, miles, points, or elite status, so I really have no idea why I would have qualified for an upgrade. But there I was, on the upper deck. Quite a nice experience for a college kid.

Prior to that I flew on a Pan Am 747 Classic, way back in coach. I remember that too; the interior just kept going back, and back, and back. Impressive.

Well, that's progress for you.

Actually, I wasn't aware of this scrapping business at this Dutch airport. Learned something new. Mind you, a bit sad too. Another 744 bites the dust and a KLM too. Being Dutch I have flown a lot of my airmails with KLM and a lot of it on it's 744. Knew some KLM pilots too, so I still have quite a bit of KLM documentation as well.
