...Representatives from Bank of America have apologized to a Pennsylvania woman for allegedly confiscating her pet parrot after mistakenly believing that she was defaulting on her mortgage ..."

This is the kind of thing that makes life worth living.

..but from context it seems probable that it wasn't a Blue Macaw but a Norwegian Blue.

It's become very bad in the US (and elsewhere, of course).  Something like 1 out of 8 homes are now in foreclosure or substantially behind in the mortgage payments.  Somehow we had enough money to bail out the predatory lendors but not the homeowners.

I almost want to think that the home loan borrowers who simply used the out-of-control banking system to acquire a nice new home without any ability to repay the loan did well since they got to live in the new home for maybe 1-3 years and then could just walk away from the loan.  The joke is then on the big banks.  At least someone turned the system around and got a measure of justice against the banksters.  Unfortunately, this small victory wasn't only against the predatory lenders since we had to bail out the banks in order to have an economy.  Yet almost nobody in the banking industry is at any risk of prosecution while the foreclosures ramp up and continue.

Sighs...
