Quote from: Palomeque8 on Mon,  8 Apr 2024 19:23Hello Nico, I am using PSX and I used PSXSeecon 3.37 to connect my SIOC, now I have a problem and I get an error "[json.exception.parse_error.101] parse error at line 1, column 1: syntax error while parsing value - invalid literal; last read: '<'

Error 98: This version has been reverted, download version 0.0.0" I don't know why that error appeared now and I can't connect my devices to PSX. What should I do to recover my system? Thank you

Hi Jhon,

I ran into the same problem, Alex figured out that version 3.29 is still working (confirmed). Do you still have that version? Alex has a copy on Dropbox if you need one: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c6eixs1d58ajqmo/PSXseecon_v3.29.zip?dl=0

If you send me a P.M I'll send you the requested files. I still have the PSXseecon sources and I still maintain it! I regularly compile it with the latest C++ compiler from Microsoft.

However, it is no longer on my site because it was confusing for the my current users of PSXseeconTraffic. You have to focus you know ;-)

Nico

Hangar 7 / Re: ACARS METAR
Last post by simonijs - Mon, 8 Apr 2024 15:16
METAR and ATIS are different messages. METAR is just weather (wind directions relative to True North). ATIS is weather and other operational information for that specific airport, such as runways in use; ATIS winds are relative to Magnetic North.

In the case of EHAM, ATIS indicators A-M are used for arrivals and N-Z for departure, broadcasted on VHF using separate frequencies.
KJFK - at this moment - is supplying one ATIS message (X), indicating landing runways (22L/22R) and departure runway (22R).

Normally ATC clears you to descend: while above the transition level [TL], to descend to a flight level - which could be the lowest in use = TL. When cleared to descend further, it will be to an altitude using QNH/altimeter setting. "Descend to FL040", or "descend to altitude 3000 ft, QNH 1015".

In your example with ATIS-indicator B, RWY06 will be the landing runway.

In a "Lost Comm" situation, you will descend according to ICAO prescribed procedures or in accordance with procedures as indicated on airport charts. You will then have to set QNH when passing the TL (which you hopefully received before getting into this Lost Comm situation).

Most airport charts indicate "TL by ATC", others have the TL indicated as a fixed number (SKBO) or a fixed number that is dependent of local QNH (VHHH).

Regards,
Simon (not anywhere near EHAM for some time)

Hi guys,

Quote from: JG on Sat,  6 Apr 2024 04:03There are many reasons why decisions are made about the correct approach to a build depending on individual case finance, space, power and time availability. For many like me, it'll be a combination of all 4.

Exactly, it'll be more iterations along the way. Thanks for the insight about your choices and described alternatives, it confirms that I'm not the only one making these choices (which I knew, of course, but it's nice to read about other simmers' thoughts) :)

Quote from: JG on Sat,  6 Apr 2024 04:03My overhead panel will remain touch screens, as will my pedestal....it works very well for things that don't require changing in a big hurry or are simple push buttons. I have no problem operating the touch screen representation of the CDU's. I'm going tactile for MCP and EFIS because you need quick changes and touch screens for rotating controls are fiddly. Because of the layout this means a tactile lower EICAS control panel too, but only for looks.

I think I'll focus on the EFIS/MCP/EICAS first too, since I want those to be tactile too. I might through in a radio and ATC module once I find the nerve to fly on VATSIM again.

Quote from: JG on Sat,  6 Apr 2024 04:03There are many examples like this in my sim. Yokes are cut down trust master Boeing edition, mechanically not connected but electronically they work absolutely as they should, conflict between the two yokes as in real life is sorted out by the Capt and FO communicating. They look almost like the real thing, cost many thousands less and offer many extra controls utilised to work scenery monitor layout and sim features like pause and motion hold. The TQ is cut down Honeycomb Bravo. I modified the reverser switches to make a pulse at each movement instead of being on for reverse and off for forward.

@JG what exactly do you mean by 'cut down'? Curious about both the yokes and Honeycomb Bravo changes.

Quote from: JG on Sat,  6 Apr 2024 04:03Another of the problems faced is concentric controls, stacked rotary encoder/switch combinations can be bought off the shelf. Knobs and covers for these can be difficult. The one you just can't get anywhere.... rotary switch/encoder-switch combinations, like that of bank/heading/select on the MCP as well as Baro/Mode/Standard and Minimums/Mode/Reset of the EFIS. I've seen all manner of complicated mechanical solutions using gears and discrete components. It is far simpler to keep it axial if rearward space is available.

You're right about this. I figured I would go with the pre-built EFIS modules from OC for the time being, using the SIOC software and PSXseecon to interface them and start using them while building the MCP and EICAS, also interfacing those with the same software.

@Alex and @JG, would you consider the prebuilt EFIS a good enough starting point for use as a tactile device, improving it along the way?

@JG, I'm considering buying the MCP and EICAS panels from OC. You stated you were happy with the quality, I was wondering how many panels you got for each. E.g. are there more panels besides the faceplates, so you can mount switches, displays and encoders to it with the appropriate distance (auxiliary panels)?
Have you ordered the Korry switches for the MCP too?

Quote from: b744erf on Sat,  6 Apr 2024 05:49The joy and excitement I felt when I opened the package containing the PSX discs shipped from Europe in 2014 are still fresh in my memory.

I wish products were still sold like this, adds to the feeling, doesn't it :)

I really love this community, this forum is quite the source of information and it has been great to exchange information (although I haven't been able to provide a lot back (yet) ;) ).
@Alex, your help is greatly appreciated, it really helped me set a direction for my build  8)

Hangar 7 / Re: Parking brake during cockp...
Last post by John H Watson - Mon, 8 Apr 2024 08:50
Depends on the circumstances. How did the accumulator get low pressure?

Was the aircraft transitting and had hot brakes?
Was the aicraft towed from the hangars to the gate by the engineers (the engineers would not only have set the brakes with full pressure, but chocked the wheels, too). We would leave maybe an inch between the wheels and chocks, otherwise during aircraft loading, the wheels would expand and sit on the chocks and we would have a hell of a time removing them. In some situations, we would use a spare chock to slam against the stuck one. Sometimes it takes half a dozen hits. If that failed, we would ask the tug driver during pushback to pull the aircraft in a particular direction to try to get the tyre off the chock (not easy when both chocks are in tight).

We relied on chocks all the time. One set on the nose, one set on one of the main gears was standard. Closer to departure time, we would pull the one on the main gear. During wheel changes, we had to take the brakes off. In this situation, we made sure the chocks were in tight.

When putting on hydraulics, always ask the permission of the ground crew.

Hangar 7 / ACARS METAR
Last post by ASCTU744 - Mon, 8 Apr 2024 05:51
I have two questions regarding ACARS METAR format:

1. Is the transition level for the destination airport the same as the one I need during descent? Since you tend to pass the TL well before your destination airport.

2. The ACARS METAR gives you an "EXPECT RNWY" value, is this for takeoff or landing?

ACARS D-ATIS:

EHAM B 161320Z
EXPECT RWY 06
TRANS LVL 40
05009KT 9999 -RA
SCT022 BKN053 06/03

Unless the brakes are hot and the parking brake is released to help cooling, pressurise the system (with the #4 Aux), set the park brake, ensure the accumulator is pressurised, and then depressurise the system.

You don't want to be relying only on chocks, particularly during passenger/cargo loading, unless there is a specific reason.

Hangar 7 / Parking brake during cockpit p...
Last post by Will - Sun, 7 Apr 2024 16:55
This is a pretty basic question... I'm looking for opinions about setting the parking brake during cockpit preparation when the brake accumulator is showing low pressure. Is there any point? Or would you always wait until the hydraulics are at least on "Aux" so that the pressure is in the green? Rely on chocks, in other words, until there is pressure? Or set it anyway, knowing that pressure stored in the system, even if low, will keep the aircraft from rolling?

Thanks as always.

actually itsgood that it now avalible from aerosoft
as before when it was DVD i couldnt buy it from transair pilot shop

needed signature on delivery

but the digial download is faster

hi hardy

your sim is great

the flight dynamics   its like flying a real full motion airline training sim

how simalar is the flight model  in your  sim to say a CAE 747 full motion sim

braking mometum  down the runway feels right

and
during the approach to landing the control colums  is pulled back in you lap with big aileron movements
so that matches you tube 747 cockpit landing vids

xplane 12 got a virtual cockpit
