Title: FiFLi add-on - First officer and Flight attendant for PSX - beta 0.77

If only I can call it add-on  .... :-)))

First I want to say "Hi" to all of you within this wonderful community, years have passed from when I first heard of PS1 and now we are all enjoying PSX, almost unbelievable what progress Hardy have made in such short time :-) I was humbled with complexity and art of simulation we are enjoying now ... It wasn't my intention to ever (in my wildest dreams) start write programs in Java :-) like Hardy :twisted: Almost two months ago I didn't know what is streaming in Java, how to read inputs from PSX, how to write variable to PSX or how to even write simple "Hello World" method :-) This is friendly warning :-)

Now, soon I will hopefully offer early beta version of FiFli - add-on for PSX I hope will make our long flights more "interesting" in terms of simulation some of totally unnecessary distractions, sounds and actions  :mrgreen: These are: first officer actions or when I really catch some java magic :-) maybe more complex actions like complete famous preflight "SLUGOS" actions and who knows where this will end :-) That's not all :-) We have also flight attendant actions which are for now reduced to announcements or briefings for various phases of flight. My inspiration was famous PS1 Flight Crew and the sounds for now are the same as in this great add-on (thank you Rodney Redwin and Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers). Also thank you Hardy for such complete introduction to networking and some programing techniques for add-on for PSX for idiots like me  :mrgreen:


These actions - briefings add-on can play for now: flight crew briefings for doors closed and ready for pushback, taxi out, cruise, approach and taxi in. Also when at the gate add-on will randomize ext power supplies, so you will get random ext pwr 1 or ext pwr 2 electric connection supply.

That's all for now, I will upload "FiFli" as soon I get some confirmations from Hoppie (as soon he gets on reading mails  :mrgreen: )

Briefing and action triggers - you must setup some of the PSX switches, buttons or levers into certain position so FiFLi can play correct briefing:

Boarding simulation:
--> Rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD and release it. Doors must be open. This will initiate passenger boarding simulation - you will hear ambient noise of passengers boarding. Also boarding will take some time(cca 30+ minutes), first you will hear lovely voice announce boarding is starting and after the boarding is complete you will hear that boarding is now complete so you can continue with preparing for engine start ...
If you wish to end boarding early, just rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and release it. You will hear flight attendant telling you that boarding is complete and sounds of boarding noise will stop.

Firs officer will do his preflight duties:
actions start automatically after you rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD and release it. Also when you do this boarding will start. You will hear First officer actions like:
   - announcing he is going to do a walk around (this will take cca 10+       minutes)
   - announcing he is back from walk around,
   - performing voice recorder test,
   - performing Fire Test,
   - testing the oxygen,
   - testing weather radar on his and Captain side,
   - announcing doors are closing (after the boarding is complete).
        - First Officer will setup radios according to the values found in "Instructor panel /           Situation / Human / Voice ATC" - this setup will happen after boarding is complete. It is important that you manually enter origin and destination into Instructor / Situation / Human / Voice - ATC fields before boarding is complete.  First Officer will then enter frequencies found in Instructor panel / Situation / Human / Voice ATC in next order (radio tuning panel left: RTPL, radio tuning panel right: RTPR):
   ground ---> RTPL Active
   tower ---> RTPL Standby
   departure ---> RTPR Active
   center ---> RTPR Standby

First officer will do "before start" actions after beacon is turned on, he will check if you forgot to do some of your "before start" items and he will do his (he assumes that you called for "Before start checklist")and after that he will be ready for your command to pull engine start switch after you move fuel control switch to run:
   - turns on APU and connects generators,
   - sets hydraulic system,
   - sets fuel system,
   - sets packs,
   - after you move fuel control switch to run he will pull  matching engine                start switch

First officer will execute runway entry procedure:
--> rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and release it. This will signal that you are ready to enter the runway so you are calling First officer to execute runway entry procedure. In this case First officer will: call flight attendants to take seats for take off, turn on landing lights, turn off taxi lights, turn on strobe, put XPDR to RA/TA position.

FA briefing: doors closed, pushback and taxiout:
-> all doors must be closed,
-> autobrakes must be in RTO position
-> beacon must be on

FA briefing: cruise:
-> altitude must be higher than 20000 ft
-> autobrakes must be in OFF position

FA briefing: approach:
-> altitude must be between 3000 and 10000 ft
-> autobrakes must be in either 1, 2, 3, 4 or MAX position
-> speedbrakes must be armed (this is important just for taxi in briefing not for approach briefing to be played),

FA briefing: taxi in:
-> flaps and speed brakes must be deplopyed
-> autobrakes must be in DISARM position
-> when you retract the speedbrake (this is the signal that we are actually of the runway) first officer will:
---> start the APU
---> turn off the landing lights
---> turn of the strobes
---> retract flaps
---> put XPDR to STBY position
---> turn off weather radar on his side,
——-> reset stab trim to neutral
---> and you will hear taxi in briefing

and final actions(randomize external supplies connections) happen:
--> only if the taxi in briefing was played
--> after autobrakes are in off position
--> and doors are open

All of the above triggers are already included in standard checklists (that means they are part of the standard procedures), so if you use PSX first officer and go through them or you play from your memory you should :-) hear all of the briefings.

FiFLi will: play briefings from flight crew for: doors closed, pushback, taxi out, cruise, approach and taxi in.
When at the gate FiFLi will simulate random Ext pwr connection - when doors are open you can expect ext pwr 1 or ext pwr 2 lights to illuminate.

small bug corrected - taxi in briefing would play twice, now should play only once :-)

feature added : after landing, when off the runway (trigger for this is speed brakes retracted) flight officer should turn the strobes off, landing lights, retract flaps and start the apu.

- added option to disable First officer
- FiFLI will indicate if connection to PSX is successful

- added selection of two additional set of voices: English, USA and Dutch - Netherlands which also includes english briefing, which all can be selected via buttons on the main FiFLi window. playback may sound little distorted if you have your system volume to high so please lower it to get more pleasing sound !
- fixed First Officer deactivation after landing - taxi in briefing should now be played
- Flight Officer will after you land: retract speed brakes (which is signal that you are leaving runway): turn the strobes and landing lights off, retract flaps, start the apu, turn on taxi lights, put XPDR to STBY position
- IMPORTANT - added function of PA volume selector on Captain's panel: if the PA volume selector is ON (green light) you will hear PA announcements (briefings) - so be sure that is selected - allow few seconds for sound to start playing after you press PA into ON position or PA into OFF position
- added function of volume adjustment via the PA volume selector on the Captain's panel: now you can adjust volume of Flight attendant's briefings - be sure that it is not muted (arrow all the way rotated to lower left) - change in volume is not instantly, it will take few seconds ...
- And last important note: directory structure must remain identical to  folders in compressed file: you must have three additional directories in your main FiFLIi folder: ENBR, ENUS and NLNL with wav files.

beta 0.46
- slightly modified NLNL set of sounds to play more clearly when adjusting sound volume, also should apply for other voice sets
- new feature added: rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD and release it. This will initiate passenger boarding simulation - you will hear ambient noise of passengers boarding.    - testing various systems on his side (for now only weather radar),

- First Officer will now do complete after landing checklist as specified in Aerowinx Precision simulator manual (After Landing procedures) on page 574. This checklist will start after you retract the speed brakes.

quite a few changes are made for this version so don't  be to hard if some bugs jump out ....
few new options added:
Failures randomizer - if you are on the ground and before start it will add some unpredictability into your flight with adding some random undemanding failures - don't check at the Instructor window and be prepared for surprise :-))) 
Move some switches - FiFLi will if you are at the ground and before start phase move some switches randomly - be aware, crew before you was a little sloppy at least :-)))
and Randomize ZFW - after all passengers been boarded you will get Final wight report

beta 0.65 —> beta 0.69
- FO option checked / unchecked now works - if somebody find it not working let me know
- Boarding simulation:

- Climb and cruize Flight attendant message is now played only when you are higher than minimum altitude (cca 10000 ft) and seat belts switch is tuned to auto or off

boarding simulation can be cancelled in case you don't want to wait for entire 30+ minutes ( rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY or UNLKD and release it. You will hear flight attendant telling you that boarding is complete and sounds of boarding noise will stop), previously this function wasn't quitting correctly - stopping, now it does :-) FO will also stop his preflight  duties.
removed "Randomize switch" - randomising switch is available under Instructor —> Malfunctions —> General
added few optimisations / simplifications in code

Hi Vito,

Great job! I had been hoping for a port of Hoppie's Flightcrew to PSX from the beginning.
It definately adds to the immersion and the feeling of having 'someone' sitting in the back :)

Hi Vito,

I just started FiFli and I can hear the lady loud and clear. It obviously works! :-)

In your readme you say "start with boost server on". Are you sure the booster is needed?

My boost server is off and it works anyway.

Booster data are also provided by the main server. The booster is for motion sensitive add-ons only, e.g. scenery motion or platform motion at 48+ Hz. There's no point in using this high-speed service for a copilot add-on.

Hello Vito,

Congratulations. Unfortunately, my PSX server freezes just after enabling flight attendant checkbox in the addon. If I quit the addon, PSX comes back to life immediately.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have any other add-on active beside FiFLi ? Does it freeze every time you try it ? The only thing I can think off is that at the start FiFLI requests refresh of all non - delta variables from PSX.

What are you specs ?

First briefing should be played after: all doors are closed, auto brakes should be in RTO position and beacon should be on. After all these conditions are satisfied, flight attendant will wait a few seconds and start first briefing then will wait a few seconds and play a second briefing and after that you will get Cabin ready signal on the pilots's call panel.

Hello Vito,

thanks for you work, sounds pretty good but I have the same problem as JP744.

Everything starts as planned but after the first announcement just the PSX-server freezes (not the PSX-client) and wondrously FiFli continues with the second announcement and "Cabin Ready" appears. I can't get a third annoncement because PSX Server is frozen. As soon FiFli is disabled PSX gets alive again.

There is no other addon running and it is WIN7-64bit with JRE 1.8.0_25 or JDK 1.8.0_05.

Hi Vito,

for a test, you could deactivate all write actions in your add-on. Just let it read from PSX, not write.

And if that works, one could check which write action freezes the server. Maybe EXT power or CABIN READY or ...

Are you using any country specific characters?

Here are two new versions -  first is FiFLi_test_1 without pauses between actions, first second and third announcement will play simuntaneosly because pauses between briefings are removed :

de facto FO actions are disabled in second version FiFLi_test_2 because all write actions are disabled. I was planning to add this option separately in one of the future betas ....

Had the same freezing problems as others with the first version. With V3 though I get the briefing it locks up PSX while the briefing plays and doesn't release until the flight attendant is unchecked. The last key pressed seems to then be done and I have control back.

For instance I was trying to move the view to a different view and couldn't until I unchecked it. Also the mouse cursor disappeared within PSX.

Maybe it's not a network problem, but a sound problem on certain computer systems.

I remember when I was developing my Arduino C++ based interface. I had an if statement before my incoming data processing loop, making PSX server flooding like this. Changing my loop with a do...while solved the problem. Maybe it can help. Don't give up Vito, your add-on is a very good idea  ;)

Thanks on kind words, we will find what overloads PSX ! The only thing main thread is calling continuosly is the flight "attendant actions" method  - maybe here is the main problem - method is being called continuously without any control if it is already active - doing something (I don't know if this sounds understandable). Now I entered some control that should tell main thread that flight attendant is already "doing" something so it can't be called from within main thread if it hasn't finished what is doing :-) Will see if this helps.

Maybe closer?

Ok, as has happened in the past. Load PSX, Load FiFLI, check Flight Attendant and then load 01 Departure 001. PSX locks me out as the first message plays.

This time after the first message plays I unchecked the flight attendant, and got control back, and then got an EICAS message saying I had a FMC Message. Look at the FMC and VSPEEDS are gone, and further looking the route is gone. Hmmm...

As I ponder this the other messages begin to play from the flight attendant and I remain in control of PSX....

So tried again...

Again PSX locks, but if I uncheck flight attendant I get control back...re-check Flight attendant after first message is played and other messages play and the FMC was not cleared...

Tried again with not checking the box until the situation was loaded but there was a delay until I could get control of PSX...was hoping that by checking the flight attendant after the situ was loaded would resolve the initial freeze but it didn't...

So maybe the issue is all to do with the situ loaded? Based on the state of the aircraft need to put in a protection? Detect that it is ready for message 4 say, and play that and give the cabin ready signal? Makes things complicated I know :)

Seeing as taxi out is impossible without some type of visual addon I been learning most of the A/C by starting from this point so far....

After which brief is the cabin ready supposed to come on? What is the trigger? Been letting it sit here, I think 3 messages have played but no Cabin Ready signal yet....

While waiting for the final playback from the flight attendant I found that I could not affect some changes in the sim...

For example, I couldn't change the brakes :(

Also, I could move the flap lever visually but the EICAS display never moved from Flaps 20 regardless of the position of the flap lever.

In general, experience has taught us (the hard way) that state machines that trigger on "normal, always happening" event sequences are quite tricky. Even the built-in PSX ATC Robot manages to escape "normal, routine" events if the pilot is just a bit out of his routine today. And some state machines are fiddly in getting back to work; ACARS OOOI is one of these.

In such a case it may help to at least document exactly what state machine (diagram) and trigger events (list) has been implemented, and sometimes also to post the current state of the machine somewhere out of the way but visible. This aids a lot in debugging and in searching why the machine seems to be locked up.

If at all possible, it is better to design a stateless machine. Usually this can be done by building a list of permanently monitored variables, and trigger an event when a specific combination of variables and exceedances occurs, without needing to know the current state (previous trigger). This is especially helpful when the stateless machine suddenly needs to cope with a midflight situation change. A state machine now gets hopelessly confused, while a stateless machine just picks up (and may go back from "landing announcement" to "takeoff announcement").

The wait and pause is already implemented if you're using my code example in AddonExampleNetThread.java.

Better, but there is a noticeable freeze to PSX. Freeze's for a few seconds, but once clears the sim comes back under user control, don't have to close your app.

Thanks for suggestions! I designed FiFLi to catch up with any flight phase, at least it should do  8) but certainly there is big room for improvements. As soon as I can I will document trigers and flight phases.

I did some tests:

Flight Attendant ACTIVE

Beacon ON, Autobrakes RTO, Doors AUTO. At the same time I start the clock on the client instance.

after 60':     BRIEF1 starts and server instance freezes, Client o.k.
after 180':   BRIEF2 starts
after 270':   BRIEF3 starts and server unfreezes and client clock resets, PSX works correct now.

After t/o no announcement anymore, when commencing descent and slowing down server freezes again and stays frozen - client o.k.

What did you mean by statement above ?  Did PSX froze after you have landed and you couldn't get control of it or you mean that briefing just didn't play  ?

When climbing you must pass 20000 ft and auto brakes should be in OFF position for briefing to be played.

When descending you must pass below 10000 ft and auto brakes should be selected: 1, 2, 3, 4 or MAX for briefing to be played.

Can you please load Basic 013 - Climbing to final cruise ... after situ file is loaded start FiFLi and make it active. Cruise briefing should be played AFTER the pause which is cca 15 secs.

Here are triggers for various briefings that FiFLi can play:

doors closed, pushback and taxiout:
-> all doors must be closed,
-> autobrakes must be in RTO position
-> beacon must be on

cruise:
-> altitude must be higher than 20000 ft
-> autobrakes must be in OFF position

approach:
-> altitude must be between 3000 and 10000 ft
-> autobrakes must be in either 1, 2, 3 4 or MAX position
-> speedbrakes must be armed (this is important just for taxi in briefing not for approach briefing to be played),

taxi in:
-> flaps and speed brakes must be deplopyed
-> autobrakes must be in DISARM position
-> when you retract the speedbrake (this is the signal that we are actually of the runway) first officer will:
---> start the APU
---> turn off the landing lights
---> turn of the strobes
---> retract flaps
---> and you will hear taxi in briefing

and final actions(randomize external supplies connections) happen:
--> only if the taxi in briefing was played
--> after autobrakes are in off position
--> and doors are open

All of the above triggers are already included in standard checklists (that means they are part of the standard procedures), so if you use PSX first officer and go through them or you play from your memory you should :-) hear all of the briefings.

I would suggest to post the essential part of your code here in the forum (subforum "Networkers", that's visible only to members). Maybe some of us Java coders will help finding the error? (On the other hand, I can also understand if you want to keep it all private as your personal challenge and adventure. Just a suggestion :-))

Thereafter everything is normal, BRIEF4 comes about 10sec after reaching FL200 and BRIEF5  comes 30sec after setting the autobrakes.

The taxi-in actions spool off (APU, landing lights, strobes, flaps) correct but after this, PSX is frozen for about 25sec, awakes again and BRIEF6 is playing.

I hope you are able to remove this bugs. Your add-on is very useful to simulate distractions while taxiing and flying. I suggest to include the list of triggers in your final download and maybe it is possible to connect this announcements with the setting of the audio control panel (CAB or PA).

Seems I have a small issue with v0.40

If I select 'First Officer deactivated' in FiFli the cabin attendant briefing for taxi-in phase (after landing) is never being played.

The cabin briefings for takeoff are working correctly, even with F/O deactivated.

You will need full package because this version has added two new voice sets: ENUS and NL voice packs.

Here are the changes:

beta 0.42
- added selection of two additional set of voices: English, USA and Dutch - Netherlands which also includes english briefing, which all can be selected via buttons on the main FiFLi window. playback may sound little distorted if you have your system volume to high so please lower it to get more pleasing sound !
- fixed First Officer deactivation after landing - taxi in briefing should now be played
- Flight Officer will after you land: retract speed brakes (which is signal that you are leaving runway): turn the strobes and landing lights off, retract flaps, start the apu, turn on taxi lights, put XPDR to STBY position
- IMPORTANT - added function of PA volume selector on Captain's panel: if the PA volume selector is ON (green light) you will hear PA announcements (briefings) - so be sure that is selected - allow few seconds for sound to start playing after you press PA into ON position or PA into OFF position
- added function of volume adjustment via the PA volume selector on the Captain's panel: now you can adjust volume of Flight attendant's briefings - be sure that it is not muted (arrow all the way rotated to lower left) - change in volume is not instantly, it will take few seconds ...
- And last important note: directory structure must remain identical to  folders in compressed file: you must have three additional directories in your main FiFLIi folder: ENBR, ENUS and NLNL with wav files.

I flew with it last nite, a real time YSSY-KLAX, and it was very cool. It was nice to get some help from the FO for the after landing flows, about time he pulled his weight!

However, freighters dont have flight attendants.

Any chance we could get one with the FAs as optional?

I saw an article about boarding time studies back when the A380 was in development.  Apparently Airbus wanted to see how Japanese airlines achieved remarkably short plane/deplane times with domestic  ANA 747's and sent a crew out to research it.  ANA was then and maybe now flying 747's up and down the home islands like regional jets in the US and got them loaded/unloaded in record times.  I think Airbus concluded that 'cultural differences' would prevent the ANA techniques from working for other parts of the world.  I gathered from the article that the passengers were mostly business travelers who traveled light, followed directions and all got up simultaneously after the seat-belt sign was out, with their (very light) briefcases/laptops and then proceeded to move out in an orderly manner.

- feature added : First officer will execute runway entry procedure:
--> when you are ready to enter runway: rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and release it. This will signal that you are ready to enter the runway and you are telling your First officer to execute runway entry procedure. In this case First officer will: call flight attendants to take seats for take off, turn on landing lights, turn off taxi lights, turn on strobe, put XPDR to RA/TA position.

- FiFLi will announce boarding time in its own window and also when boarding process is finished ... now you can plan your departure more precisely :-) don't forget that if you just don't have that much time, you can rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and boarding will stop imidiatelly  :-)
- when you park at the gate FiFLi will randomize door opening side ... you can expect left or maybe right side doors to be opened

maybe your overall (system) volume slider is set to low ... the problem is that if you pump volume to high in source file you will get more and more distorted sound even with small volume changes on the PA volume and to correct this I would need some normalization filter implemented into the code. This is the best I could do so far  :? .... Sounds are optimized for mid level volume settings, so try to bring up system volume slider.

sorry, I misunderstood your question :-) Boarding sounds are deliberately made quieter because you are sitting behind closed door most of the time and not so close to the main boarding door. But I suppose I can make them sound a LITTLE louder, if I make them to loud it will become to boring or to distracting (at least for me ). You cant adjust volume of the boarding sounds through PA knob, it only adjusts FA announcements.

I've just grabbed this and I'm not sure if it's right but there's a complete additional copy of the directory structure within an FiFLi directory inside the zip.  It looks as though it duplicates itself.

I can only run FiFLi on the PSX Server computer. If I try to run it from another computer, FiFLi cannot connect to server. Is it possible for you to add the possibility to specify the PSX Server IP adress and port on a window or setup file in order to use FiFLi over a network ?

- FiFLi can be connected to various ports or host names - just enter your port or host name into respected fields
- added First officer cockpit preflight set-up actions - these actions start automatically after you rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to deny UNLKD and release it. Also when you do this boarding will start. You will hear First officer actions like:
   - testing the oxygen,
   - testing various systems on his side (for now only weather radar),
   - announcing he is back from walk around and doors are closing (after the boarding is complete)

Wouldn't it be better to start with Unlock? Boarding starts and the First Officer starts his check along with walk around?

my typo, sorry, :-)

Normal position for selector is "auto". when you move it to "UNLKD" position it will start boarding and FO actions ... don't know from where I get this "deny" :-)

Hi Derek,

Here is what to do:

Aircraft should be powered up and ready for boarding, doors must be opened!

Boarding simulation:
--> Rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD and release it. Doors must be open. This will initiate passenger boarding simulation - you will hear ambient noise of passengers boarding. Also boarding will take some time(cca 30+ minutes), first you will hear lovely voice announce boarding is starting and after the boarding is complete you will hear that boarding is now complete so you can continue with preparing for engine start ...
If you wish to end boarding early, just rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and release it. You will hear flight attendant telling you that boarding is complete and sounds of boarding noise will stop. FiFLi will announce in its own window how long boarding will take in minutes.

Why you didn't hear all announcements is hard to tell but I suspect that you missed some of the steps / triggers which are necessary for certain phase to be activated. I suggest that you start with instructions folowed step by step. Waiting for your report :-)

Here are triggers for certain phase:

FA briefing: doors closed, pushback and taxiout:
-> all doors must be closed,
-> autobrakes must be in RTO position
-> beacon must be on

FA briefing: cruise:
-> altitude must be higher than 20000 ft
-> autobrakes must be in OFF position

FA briefing: approach:
-> altitude must be between 3000 and 10000 ft
-> autobrakes must be in either 1, 2, 3, 4 or MAX position
-> speedbrakes must be armed (this is important just for taxi in briefing not for approach briefing to be played),

FA briefing: taxi in:
-> flaps and speed brakes must be deplopyed
-> autobrakes must be in DISARM position
-> when you retract the speedbrake (this is the signal that we are actually of the runway) first officer will:
---> start the APU
---> turn off the landing lights
---> turn of the strobes
---> retract flaps
---> put XPDR to STBY position
---> turn off weather radar on his side,
——-> reset stab trim to neutral
---> and you will hear taxi in briefing

and final actions(randomize external supplies connections) happen:
--> only if the taxi in briefing was played
--> after autobrakes are in off position
--> and doors are open

- First Officer will now do complete after landing checklist as specified in Aerowinx Precision simulator manual (After Landing procedures) on page 574. This checklist will start after you retract the speed brakes.
- fixed few typos in "readme"
- First Officer will setup radios according to the values found in "Instructor panel / Situation / Human / Voice ATC" - this setup will happen after boarding is complete. It is important that you manually enter origin and destination into Instructor / Situation / Human / Voice - ATC fields BEFORE boarding is complete.  First Officer will then enter frequencies found in Instructor panel / Situation / Human / Voice ATC in next order (radio tuning panel left: RTPL, radio tuning panel right: RTPR):
   ground ---> RTPL Active
   tower ---> RTPL Standby
   departure ---> RTPR Active
   center ---> RTPR Standby

Since we have a more than few "freight dogs" :-) who use FiFLi, decission to assign new button to enable control of First Officer actions since freighters don't have FLT DK DOOR control. Any suggestions what button to use, mine is: radio tuning panel center, R/T - INT switch ?

Few news here, our First Officer has become even more usefull after he has returned from his flight school, he will now help you with:
- "before start" actions after beacon is turned on, he will check if you forgot to do some of your "before start" items and he will do his (he assumes that you called for "Before start checklist")and after that he will be ready for your command to pull engine start switch after you move fuel control switch to run:
   - turns on APU and connects generators,
   - sets hydraulic system,
   - sets fuel system,
   - sets packs,
   - after you move fuel control switch to run he will pull  matching engine       start switch .

Hope you will find these new FO actions useful :-)))

I just have a quick request, I have no idea if it is complicated or not, so I'm asking just in case.

During his before start actions, the FO sets the hydraulics panel, putting Demand pumps 1-3 on AUTO, and number 4 on AUX.
But on the aircraft I use (G-CIVZ), it is equipped with an AUX pump on circuit 1, and I think in that case, it should be set to AUX instead of AUTO. I don't know if you could take that option into account (either through an auto detection of the aircraft option, or an option in your interface).

Anyway, thanks for all your efforts !

Whenever I use FIFI PSX starts to not respond with a message at the top saying "PSX not responding", and therefore  will not accept any keyboard or mouse inputs.

As soon as I close FIFI the normal PSX returns to full use.

Is it something I am doing wrong?

Hi Derek, sorry to hear that you have problem with FiFLi. I assume that you use latest version (0.57). Similar problems were rectified since version 0.2. Can you tell me if this is happening every time or sporadically ? When this freezing starts, does it start just when you click on connection button in FiFLi ? Do you use FiFLi over network (from other computer) ? Does anybody else have a problem with freezing again ?

Re installed latest version. Problem immediately arises on loading and connecting FiFli.
The program is not run over the network either as local host or IP address.

Any body who has helped me with installing add ons will attest to the fact that it will be something simple that I am doing wrong :roll:  so please be understanding!

Takes a while to connect. Then PSX freezes. Loads with a plain "Boeing Brown" background
and then instruments turn on. If PSX is sent to the task bar it takes a delayed time to load on screen. No anti viruses should be causing a problem and all other addons work fine except ADAPTPSX which will not release from the task bar and will not print (old problem)

With testC jar the first officer did not respond till beacon was switched on and the hydraulic switch and other actions occurred. There was no sound.

         Wednesday golf day so did not have time to test and reply

I cannot feel more dreadful about the problems I have (and it seems others do not :|

059-A.jar is slow to load and can be slow to connect. Then all hell breaks loose with PSX.

The best jar file you sent was Test C . Immediate connection and ajthough devoid of sound did start to work at engine start.

(I thought I would check out the last sentence before posting and have found that test c would not connect after trying all others so I rebooted the computer W7 and it connected immediately!!!!!!)

May I respectively suggest you give me an idea of what you expect of each new jar file so that I will know what will happen.

Hi Derek, the problem is in thread which simulates First officers before start actions. Somehow it corrupts entire environment in which is run. It is my fault but I need time to get it right :-). Here is version of FiFLi without this thread active, please try it and report back, this should run ok:

do you have reasonable Thread.sleep() delays in your looped threads? As you certainly know, for such tasks a loop need not run faster than 1 Hz, or even much slower. If a loop has no delay it may run at over 100 Hz and draw CPU performance from all  running programs.

Yes the PA was turned on!.  2 hours into a 2 1/2 flight all hell broke loose again in PSX. On one occasion the whole screen faded to white. Closing FiFli  returned everything to normal.  I run PSX on a SSD drive and although I feel this has nothing to do with what would seem is a personal problem, I throw it into the mix for consideration.

If you are able, I would appreciate some assistance as well.  I have constantly updated, and I do have the latest 059-B file, and still rotating the knob to UNLOCKED and back does not start the simulation.  I have overwritten files, getting FULL updates.  I renamed the 059-B .jar to FiFli.jar and ran that.  I get a good connection to PSX- but no audio at all.

Thank-you!  I deleted the current FiFLi folder, and downloaded the one you suggested.  BTW this is on my 2014 rMBP w/ 27" Thunderbolt Display (OS 10.10.3).

Ran PSX, ran FiFLi, showed connected to PSX and still nothing after selecting UNLOCKED.

I have uploaded my SITU and LAYOUT in case there is something obvious I am missing.

Hey Vito,

I too have problems with FiFli (latest version). The boarding procedure starts (as displayed by a status message "!Boarding! 38 mins!" - but there are no sounds and no actions done by the F/O. Sound is working from PSX, checked my settings twice. Maybe you can have a look into it :)

Dropbox is uncontrolled. A paranoid piece of software will want to warn you that you are about to run a program off an uncontrolled site that can contain anything. Just use the brain... the program does not have one.

Likewise my stuff at work does not allow me to send .zip or .exe files via e-mail. So I have to constantly rename the files into .xex and .piz and what not. That always works... so far for the security wall.

BRAVO!  FiFli works here as well :).  BTW, I habitually run two setups- a rMBP for a "PSX nightcap" before turning in, and a networked PC setup for longer flights.  I was able to run FiFli both on the rMBP (1 machine application) AND on the second (networked application using IP) machine (using just Server, not boost on the sim machine).  Just to be sure, I downloaded the entire package 0.62 after deleting my prior folder.

Thank-you for your efforts, and perseverance- they are greatly appreciated.

Thanks on comments and I am happy that some problems are solved :-) !

I am thinking to add some new features such as:

* Flight attendants warning if temperatures in passenger cabin gets to hot or to cold :-)
* add some nasty comments from First officer if you forget something obvious in your procedures and checks :-)
* random comments and sounds from First officer just to make our long flights interesting and that we know FiFLi is running in background:-)
*your suggestions :-)

Hi Vito,

I "turned off" first officer by ticking the box, but it still performs silent tasks like TCAS and weather radar tests, switching on landing lights etc...

Could you check that ? I have a full hardware cockpit and fly with a friend as copilot so I would like FiFli copilot to be 100% inactive (announcements AND silent tasks) when the box "Disable copilot" is ticked. Is it possible ?

I just retested it by starting with a take-off situation. I was able to skip the preflight stuff and the F/A did her takeoff announcement. But when climbing through 20000 ft the program did not advance to the climb and cruise phase; instead, the F/O did some preflight checks like WXR test etc. Is it a requirement that FiFli is to be started only when PSX is in a preflight situation, and if so, is it necessary to wait 20+ minutes until the F/O is ready for engine start?

Or is FiFli supposed to skip flight phases automatically? How does it check the current flight phase? Does it check the flight phase when a switch is moved, or does it check it in an independent, infinite loop every 5 seconds or so?

FiFLi is not jet bulletproof in detecting flight phase but so far it should for example automatically start doing things according to flight phase. For now flight phase is detected by selected switches and various parameters from PSX (alt, speed ...) I am thinking in the future slightly to change this flight phase detection (maybe to rely on FMC for this). Your problem was that you didn't wait for boarding phase to complete (it can last up to 40 mins) and FO to finish its preflight duties (it can last up to 10 mins). These can be skipped by rotating FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and release it. You will hear flight attendant telling you that boarding is complete and sounds of boarding noise will stop (though I am not sure anymore / have to check this/ if FO will stop his preflight duties and skip to before start phase).

I just checked, FO will continue his 10 mins loop (doing his preflight checks) even if you force boarding to stop. Simplest way to skip to "climb" phase is to restart FiFLi :-).

the other day made a flight from Brussels to San Fransisco with 126500kg of fuel, of which 15000 kg in the center tank.
the FO did not set the center tank pumps to on, when there is more then 7700 kg and less then  22600 kg  these must be on as stated on page 446 on the Aerowinx manual.

just an observation, by no means any criticism.

Here it is, new beta 0.64, few new options, it SHOULD work better than previous version but .... :-))) Keep old files if you think it is wise.

few new options added:
Failures randomizer - if you are on the ground and before start it will add some unpredictability into your flight with adding some random undemanding failures - don't check at the Instructor window and be prepared for surprise :-))) 
Move some switches - FiFLi will if you are at the ground and before start phase move some switches randomly - be aware, crew before you was a little sloppy at least :-)))
and Randomize ZFW - after all passengers been boarded you will get Final weight report.

Here is FiFLi version beta 0.69 (skipped few versions - didn't want to publish it because nothing relevant for users changed)

Here are changes:
- FO option checked / unchecked now works - if somebody find it not working let me know :-)
- Boarding simulation:
--> Rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD or DENY and release it. Doors must be open. This will initiate passenger boarding simulation - you will hear ambient noise of passengers boarding. Also boarding will take some time(cca 30+ minutes), first you will hear lovely voice announce boarding is starting and after the boarding is complete you will hear that boarding is now complete so you can continue with preparing for engine start ...
If you wish to end boarding early, just rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY or UNLKD and release it. You will hear flight attendant telling you that boarding is complete and sounds of boarding noise will stop.Stopping boarding process is now more robust, you still must wait cca 30 secs to stop it. So news here is that and change of position of FLT DK DOOR selector changes FiFLi current phase.
—-> FO will do silent taskst after all four engines has been started (before you do after start checks):
- turn off APU
- set up Hyd pumps
- turn on window heat (if you forgot)
- turn on AFT cargo heat
- turn on the PACKS

--> after landing simulation now includes sounds of softly playing classical music in the background

in previous versions there was possibility for freighters to activate boarding actions / FO preflight but it was unfortunately lost in between versions (probably due some testing). I have now revisited this particular section and I hope restored functionality for freighters:

so in this beta 0.70 we have:

- added replacement option for freighters who doesn't have the FLT DK DOOR selector !
Switches on the Center Audio panel are acting as the FLT DK DOOR selector switch:
   - Switch "INT" or "R/T" act as FLT DK DOOR selector to UNLKD / DENY on passenger aircraft

1.1 >>> Load PSX, start with cold&dark scenario First load your PSX with situation on the ground and all of your add-ons including FiFLi. It is IMPORTANT that you click "Connect me to PSX"  after you have established power to your aircraft - not before (connect battery,  stby power and ext power). Also make sure that PA on Captains radio panel is on (little green light is on) - this is needed if you want Flight attendant briefings to be heard - you can also(to be sure it is not to quiet) adjust volume by rotating PA knob !
1.2 >>> Load FiFLi and other add-ons you are using - don't yet click "Connect me to PSX!" Button !
1.3 >>> Open Instructor page in PSX and then:
1.4 >>> Select Service: setup your ZFW, fuel, click External supplies checkboxes
1.5 >>> Select Human: setup Origin and Destination airport, enter Initial cruise FL, double press Talks to us so Responsible now mode is reset to Ground frequency

This is the start procedure I use and it works every time. I load cold and dark at YSSY for all my fights as I live near by and enjoy the scenery.. :)

First steps are to press Connect to PSX button on FiFLi panel.  Recommended is that this is done as in tutorial is said but I got habit (and it works also) to press Connect button as soon as PSX is loaded, no matter if power is connected (message in the FIFLi window should be: Parked at the ground). Second status change is initiated when you rotate  FLT DK DOOR selector in any direction - that is when boarding / FO preparation starts. Form here, you just follow standard flow, exceptionally you can shorten boarding simulation by rotating FLT DK DOOR selector in any direction - again (but bear in mind that FO preflight procedures will go on until they are finished - this is due programming - still on to do list is that FO actions also stop with stopping boarding actions).

Thanks for the information about the status changes; that's what I was looking for. It's a good way to see if FiFLi is on track. I started cold and dark, powered up the aircraft, and then I think the status was immediately "Preflight checklist." What is the trigger for getting to that phase of FiFLi?

Hi Will,

First message after you check "Connect me to PSX!" should be "Parked at the gate". After that you will usually start preflight procedures by rotating FLT DK DOOR selector. If you change Beacon switch either side (or you have it on) FiFLi will initiate "Before start procedure" and FO will do various tasks in preparing plane for starting engines. Message will change to "Before start checklist" when FO is done.

I must review my tutorial because it is not updated recently, sorry for that.

FiFli is very realist and works fine. I've just a problem vhen arriving at holding point. I stop taxi, then obtain clearance to enter the RWY, Flt dk door is turned on DENY and release and there nothing happens ?
Current Fifli phase stay at Before start checklist. To obtain the next Fifli phase i have to quit Fifli, and then restart it, and wait
Can you help me ? What is wrong ?

- Simulation of boarding (starts when you rotate FLT DK DOOR selector) now also reflects in ZFW value being changed (increased), ZFW will automatically increase towards inserted Planned ZFW value (you can check this on CDU by selecting PERF INIT page) , also value entered in - Planned fuel will automatically trigger fuel loading - if values in respective fields stays "0" ZFW and Fuel will not be automatically updated / loaded
- Climb and cruize Flight attendant message is now played only when you are higher than minimum altitude (cca 10000 ft) and seat belts switch is tuned to auto or off

first of all thank you very much for your awesome addon. But - it's a pity it does not work in connection with my system I suppose. Although I followed everything according to your description it didn't work the last three times.
First I thought maybe my antivirus software was the reason. But after deactivating it there are still problems.
Sometimes Phase 3 works, sometimes it doesn't!  :-(
After I finished my Taxi I rotated FLT DK DOOR selector to deny. ...nothing happens.
During Phase 6 - Climb - Cruise there is no FA briefing heard etc. etc.
It's a shame. Nevertheless this addon is great stuff - if it's working. In my case there is no success!  :-(
Maybe you have an idea what the reason is.

You are probably missing condition, let's see ...
First, just for safety, be sure that FiFLi status message says "Connected!" when you check "Connect to PSX !".

After I finished my Taxi I rotated FLT DK DOOR selector to deny. ...nothing happens.

To enter "Runway entry procedure" you must have next items checked:

1. Flaps must be in TAKE OFF position
2. Beacon must be ON
3. Autobrakes must be set to RTO
4. Pair of Landing light must be switched to on (left or right pair - it doesn't matter which pair) - this is trigger for "telling" FO to prepare aircraft

now everthing is working! Do you know why:    My procedures were based on your first procedure guide which was different in some case:

Phase 5 - Take off
Conditions: When you are near runway and you have your clearance to enter it you can execute Runway
entry procedure
5.1 >>> Rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY and release it - This will signal to the First officer that you
are ready to enter the runway and so you are giving First officer order to execute so called runway entry
procedure. First officer will: call flight attendants to take seats for take off, turn on landing lights, turn off taxi
lights, turn on strobe, and put XPDR to RA/TA position.
5.2 >>> Do Takeoff checklist

I always tried to rotate FLT DK DOOR selector in order to start the runway entry procedure.

The "before-start-engine" problem (Phase 3) always happened when I already changed the flaps in takeoff position.  :-)

As you see there were some changes made during the update period I suppose. I would really appreciate if you have an actual procedure guide with all the changes in comparison to the procedure guide V. 1.0.

By the way the briefing during climbing/cruising still does not work!  :-(

There were changes since first release of the procedure guide, if I can remember, but full update will be done as soon as I am finished with beta :-)

I am sorry that flight attendant still not working.  I see that I made typo here mentioning FLT DK DOOR selector instead SEAT BELTS selector, so here are correct conditions for FA:

1. Doors must be closed
2. Gear must be in UP position
3. Altitude must be higher than 10000 ft
4. Descent phase must not be active (you can't be closer than 250 nm from destination)
5. And final:  SEAT BELTS selector must be in AUTO or OFF position.

Java version doesn't mater. One last thing I can think off: do you have selected PA volume selector on Captain's panel: if the PA volume selector is ON (green light) you will hear PA announcements (briefings) - so be sure that is selected.

I presume that you have files (wav sound files should installed using the same directory structure as in ZIP file) installed correctly ? It is weird that one briefing is played and others are not. I would download whole package again and extract it in new folder just to be sure. FiFLi doesn't  change windows registry file so you can safely delete old folder just to be sure.

You need speakers (or headphones) if you want to hear the FiFLi sounds.
The sounds do not run through network wires, and they do not come from PSX.

Hi John,

when you click on the link your browser opens and shows Dropbox page. You can see bunch of folders in the main view but if you look to the upper right corner of page you can see two options: sign in and download. Click on the download option and then direct download. Now the ZIP file (complete package) should be saved to your folder.

Here it is, new beta 0.74 ! I have skipped few versions because of cosmetic changes ...

beta 0.72 - 0.73
- when selecting to stop boarding + ZFW and fuel was not correctly updated, now it is (still you have to wait for First FO to finish his walk-around and perform his other preflight duties ...

beta 0.74
- boarding simulation can be cancelled in case you don't want to wait for entire 30+ minutes ( rotate FLT DK DOOR selector to DENY or UNLKD and release it. You will hear flight attendant telling you that boarding is complete and sounds of boarding noise will stop), previously this function wasn't quitting correctly - stopping, now it does :-) FO will also stop his preflight  duties.
- removed "Randomize switch" - randomising switch is from start available in PSX under Instructor —> Malfunctions —> General, so this option is not really needed :-)
added few optimisations / simplifications in code

FO can be disabled by checking / unchecking "FO active" option (main FiFLi screen) but  then FO will stop performing any of the checks and actions during flight.

I just tired using FiLi with the latest 10.68 and even though my situ has my airline designation Qantas and flight No. QF15 Fili seemed to change the flight number to 666 and ATC referred to my flight as Aeroflot 666...
Very confusing as when I load the situ without FiLi all is OK....

If I rename the flight and number then the ATC eventually uses the correct reference. Why does FiLi change the flight number and how can I stop it from doing so?

Thanks Alex, I was aware of the bug with transponder code number not being reset with new flight (ATC would refer to old one from last flight) but this is new. Anyway I think this bug has something with FiFLi reseting "Talk to us"  checkbox under "Instructor -> Situation --> Human -- > Voice ATC"  as I was trying to have correct "Responsible now" controller frequency active after boarding phase is finished (to relieve pilot from checking Voice-ATC frequencies if correct "responsible now" frequency is selected).

I will check on this but it may not be soon ...

Take your time... I am still building my cockpit but take short test flights to try my hardware out every so often.
On the last one I also checked that the door control hardware did interface with FiLi as well....

Thanks for the great add-on.  I recently got a new computer and had to reinstall PSX and FiFLi.  When I load PSX to a cold and dark cockpit setting and then launch FiFLi, I see the connection being made in PSX's network page, but FiFLi doesn't seem to register the connection (i.e., no status is shown such as "Parked at the gate").  The Java launcher has permission to communicate freely on my private network so I'm not sure what else might be the problem.

Was wondering if I'm missing something obvious in my setup.

Problem appears to have resolved itself.  Not sure what happened. I rebooted the machine and relaunched PSX.  FiFLi was able to connect after that.

I run a fixed base cockpit with hardware switches etc.

I love the sounds of the cabin, announcements etc. But I don't need the FO to do anything, as this will result in my hardware switches being in the wrong position if he moves one "virtually".

I realise I can uncheck the FO Actions box and therefore he won't do anything. Does this also disable FO sounds like when he says he's going outside?

Also, I use Gary's BACARS add on, with Simbrief planning. This deals with fuel for me as well as passenger load. It sets the ZFW and also gradually fills the fuel tanks. How do I avoid FiFli clashing here? Do I simply set ZFW to 0 , or leave it blank?

Hi Roger,

FO active "check" means that you will hear FO voice and he will mess with switches, otherwise you will not hear him and he won't move anything. As for ZFW and Planned fuel fields, if you leave them as they are set (inserted zeroes) FIFLI will not fill your tanks or load passengers via modifying ZFW (but you will still have sounds and timer as virtual passengers are loading).

I followed the tutorial as far as possible with the FO inactive.

I found that I could not hear the flight attendants' announcements.

It is probably something trivial but have you come across this before with inactive FO?

However, it occurs to me I mihgt have just downloaded the .jar file without the full package - hence FiFli goes through the correct states but has no sound.

I've had a quick look through the thread but all references to the addon are giving broken Dropbox links - can you advise where I can find the full package?

Edit - I think I've found it - when I originally installed I _copied_ FiFli.jar to the desktop insted of putting a shortcut there - hang fire on everything, have now made it a shortcut so the sound files are available. Will report back. I tend to rush at things sometimes and skip important steps - learning PSX will help train me out of that!

Edit 2 - yep, that was it. All sounds playing now. Thanks for your patience!

OK it's starting to come together.

I had lovely noises and announcements up till Runway Entry Procedure - I turned onn the inboard landing lights and FiFli went to REP as expected.

Since I don't have FO active, after a couple of moments I turned on the other landing lights, but forgot strobe... does that matter?

I put strobe on later but only after passing 10k ft - when FiFli did not change to Climb and Cruise and I started looking for reasons - I'm wondering if that is an issue?

Anyway I'm in the cruise now at FL210 with FiFli still in Runway Entry Procedure.

What have I missed?

If you forgot "strobe" light then you would not get "before take off procedure". After take off you probably forget to set passenger seat belts sign to auto or off - that's why you probably didn't hear cruise announcement. 

I strongly suggest that  you check FiFLi tutorial:

Tried again last night but after takeoff and passing 10,000 ft, turning the seat belt lights to 'off' after 10k ft, still stuck on Runway Entry Procedure. Went up as far as FL230 and waited for around 15 mins before admitting defeat :-)

I'm theorising that the FO when active is doing something that I am not, having unchecked the 'FO Active' box before starting FiFli.

I followed the tutorial and carried out all the checklists this time - even remembered the strobe!

It'll be something simple I'm sure. Do you have a list of FO actions during and after Runway Entry Procedure that you can let me have? I want to check I carry out everything. Is turning the seatbelt signs to Auto or Off after FL110 the only trigger for changing state to climb/cruise?

I am assuming that FiFLi played sound for "Runway entry procedure". Then it is correct to assume that everything is configured correctly for this phase and error is somewhere after take off. I must check your scenario at home with FO "inactive". If you try the same scenario with FO active, are you getting FiFli entering climb phase ?

No, I meant the sound of FO. As I can remember FO turns off taxi lights (if Captain forgets). Main trigger for climb mode is "gear is up", certain altitude and of course seat belts signs to auto or off ...

Hi Roger,

So far I found that problem arises if you start FiFLi, uncheck FO active ant then you connect to PSX. Try first connect to PSX ant after that uncheck FO active. I have tried basic scenario on the ground and if you do right steps FIFli (first connect FiFLi and then uncheck FO active button) works ok (detecting phases).

In program FO thread probably contains some variable that influences other threads so FiFLi isn't detecting right flight phase. I will check this in next days for solution.

FiFli and BACARS
Hi Vito. I am still amazed about the package you created. It's like "FS2Crew" for PSX but for free, amazing! I was wondering if it would be possible to "catch" a variable from BACARS if both are installed. Because in BACARS you can enter the "Ready for boarding" flag in your ACARS. I don't know if it's technically possible, but It would be amazing if that would send a Signal to FiFly to start the boarding process as well. Not that turning the Know would be a Problem, but the immersion would be great if you could link those two great addons.

Unfortunately the answer is: no. At first look it looks simple task but ... I was thinking about it and it would require for me to explore BACARS and find what are requirements, then to implement more code to satisfy optional use of BACARS and at the end BACARS can change its internal logic, then again FIFLi  would not work as intended. Also, I am not using BACARS, that is another reason so it would require for me more time to explore it (I am not saying that sometime in the future I wont do it). But you can, in the mean time, accomplish your goal simply by pressing FLT DK DOOR switch in either direction to tell FIFLi to start boarding process and again to stop it (when BACARS sends signal: ready for boarding) as this looks to me like you are the Captain and you are the on who tells your attendants that boarding process can start :-).

Hi Vito,

First of all, nice add-on. I must admit that when you first published it I asked myself if now an add-on does the preparation tasks (even if partially), what do I do ( ;) ) and didn't try it at the time.
Now I used FiFLi (0.77) for the first time in my flights in the past week and had few problems. To be sure I'm not wrong, I did few tests today using only FiFLi as an add-on to be sure no other add-on was responsible. I also have few remarks and recommendations and I'll start with this.

The first thing I wondered about was the use of the FLT DK DOOR selector as a mean to tell FiFLi about changing phases. Why not to use the IRS selectors (when any one of them is in NAV or ALIGN) as a signal to start passenger boarding and to the FO (if active) to start his tasks. The IRS selectors (with aircraft on ground and engine out) is the way on the real aircraft to change flight phase (in the CMC) from Power On (in your case "Parked at the gate") to Pre Flight.

I would have used the Beacon light switch as a mean to end boarding (if not ended), to end FO activities and for the FO to do the before start tasks. There is a problem with this suggestion because Beacon light should switch ON as part of the Before Start checklist while we need the boarding to end before we do the Final Cockpit Preparation but still I think it is better than the door selector (and solve the freighter problem).

I also have used the Strobe light switch as a mean of runway entry procedure and let the FO to switch ON (among other things) the landing lights (I don't understand why only one pair of landing lights needs to be ON for this).

I did a test to see if FiFLi identifies correctly flight phases (when airborne) when started. I loaded a flight in cruise, started FiFLi and it was ok. I close it, loaded a flight in descent, started FiFLi and it wasn't (It showed climb & cruise). I guess it happened because gear was up and the aircraft was below 10,000 feet.

These is a simple way to know the flight phase in PSX. There is a variable (Qs392, FmcVnavX) where its 4th char tells you which VNAV phase is active: 0=CLB, 1=CRZ and 2=DES. Now you can identify the correct phase regardless of the altitude.

Now for some problems I had (only when FO was active):

1. When the FO sets the RTPs it messes up the Instructor Voice-ATC page. Too many things happened to me during my tests. It changed (not everything and not all the time) Origin, Destination, initial FL, flight number, the probability of Hold and Go Around from Never to Unlikely etc. It always unchecked the LNAV CRZ and LNAV ARR checkboxes. While the Call sign remained El Al, when I made first contact with the ground, it called me Aeroflot (the 1st in the list) or Emirates (the next to El Al). It took me time to understand it called me (I understood it by the use of the correct flight number). I didn't do another test to check it but this mess up also happened to me when I was airborne. It happened around the transition from Climb & Cruise to Descent & Approach (about 250nm from destination).
In some cases Origin and Dest changed to bbbb. It took me some time to understand it happened because there was no route in the FMC RTE page (bbbb is 4 boxes) but that made me understand you copy things to the Voice-ATC page and something is wrong here.

2. The next problem happened (on and off) after the FO spoke with the purser. Not always he switched the audio CAB switch to other switch (VHF R or something else). The result was annoying dial tone until I switched it "OFF".

3. The last problem happened during engine start. I used El AL configuration which doesn't have Auto Start. That means I first pulled out the start switch and when the time came, set fuel control switch to RUN. The FO called "starting engine X". I don't have a problem with that but I noticed the white light in the start switch extinguished. Do you send to PSX, for example, EngStartSw1 (Qh267) = 1? If yes, this is wrong because you reset all other bits (especially the Contact Close bit) to 0. You should use the logic OR operator on the variable only to set the 1st bit to 1 (even if it is already set).

Glad that it works :-) Thanks on your extensive analysis. Some problems I am aware, but I need to catch time (which I don't have now)  to solve them. Some solutions are chosen (at the time) because simply in my knowledge I didn't know better solutions at the time :-) and some can be changed to better (definitely) - like you suggested it. Thanks again and I will definitely look to solve (at least) some problems you mentioned.
